ESP mail seen in spamtraps October 2016

Severely late this month, to offset last month’s being well on time… 🙂

The percentage of ESP sent mail vs all mail seen in the spamtraps is 2.9%. The amount of ESP mail was up 34% from last month, with the total amount of mail down 21% from last month.

The top ten this month consists of the usual suspects, with Benchmark Email dropping from #7 to #10, if only because others were sending more.

RATING PARTICIPANT PERCENTAGE NOTES MOST PROMINENT CUSTOMER
0 All others 44.7%
1 SalesForce Marketing Cloud 11.1% ExactTarget Ubid (10%)
2 SendGrid 8.4% Daily Kos (4.5%)
3 MailChimp 6.4% (Mandrill 7%, MC proper 93%) defeatmichaelbennet@activist.com (1.6%)
4 Experian 5.9% Target (6%)
5 Rackspace Mailgun 4.7% berceni.online (41%) (Affiliate “adult dating” spammer targeting Scandinavia)
6 Constant Contact 3.9% Advisor Perspectives (still at 40%)
7 Oracle Marketing Cloud 3.7% Responsys, Eloqua and RightNow Nordstrom (10%)
8 Amazon SES 3.3% 7dayshop.com (6%)
9 IBM Marketing Cloud 2.9% Silverpop Hillary Clinton (14%)
10 Benchmark Email 2.6% isalesshop.com (6%)

Bubbling under: Dyn (2.5%), AWeber (2.1%), Blue Hornet (1.8%), MySMTP (1.7%).

Here’s the “relative badness” graph. Digital Metrics is back to their usual “standards.” The Danish operation MySMTP only appears in the middle because of the methodology (taking each separate sender domain name as evidence of a separate customer); looking at the domain names involved, it looks more like a snowshoe spammer than an ESP.
