Global Exchange: Still Emailing a Years-Dead Email Address

Global Exchange, an international coordination and support organization for mostly left-leaning activists, is sending bulk emails to an email address that was closed in 2003, which appears to be before this organization existed. The ESP is Salsalabs, the ESP side of liberal U.S. political activist group Wired for Change.

I don’t suspect Global Exchange of deliberate spamming. I would have expected to see hits on considerably more than a single spamtrap if they were — several of my spamtraps receive regular emails from half the spamming activist groups in the known universe. <wry grin> It appears that they have done little or no bounce processing or list hygiene, however. If they’re hitting my elderly spamtrap, then they are probably hitting others. This does not bode well for their long-term reputation or deliverability. Salsalabs, please have a talk with your customer about cleaning up their list!

Dear <xxx>,

When you’re deciding what to get that special someone for Valentine’s Day, chocolate is always nice.

But “Fair Trade” chocolate AND a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world — well that’s even better! Introducing the Global Exchange Valentine Gift Membership Package [ http://www.globalexchange.org/giftmembership ], which does all of the above. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there’s no better time to show your love for those you care about AND for the planet.
