A Tale of Two Presidential Campaigns….

A few months ago I blogged about spam from U.S. President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign. That spam has continued to arrive like clockwork. Today Mitt Romney’s campaign did the same thing — it sent email for the first time to a spamtrap that was closed in 2003. The Obama campaign’s mailings are sent through Blue State Digital. The Romney campaign is mailing through BlueHornet, a division of Digital River.

Pimsleur: Advertising Language Training via “The Political Insider”? WTF?

Today’s spam from The Political Insider, a newsletter that had previously appeared to be about conservative U.S. political issues and about which I blogged once already, consists solely of a non-political advertisement for the Pimsleur System, a well-known language education program in the U.S. As before, the email was sent by ESP BlueHornet, a division of Digital River. As before, URLs in the message body point to a marketing firm, Paramount Communication Group.

Joe Kyrillos: Campaigning for a Spamtrap’s Vote

A couple of months ago the Senate campaign of Joe Kyrillos in New Jersey began sending campaign emails to one of my spamtraps, an email address that was closed in 2004. It is sent to an email address that was closed in 2004. The email nonetheless indicates that the email address was added to the system on May 7, 2012. “Conservatives United 2012”: Anonymously Spamming Rick Santorum’s List :(

An organization that calls itself “Conservatives United 2012” but that has no web site that I could find and sends email as conservativesunited2012@gmail.com instead of under a domain of its own, just started sending bulk email to an email address that was created earlier this year and subscribed only to former senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s campaign list. The email was sent by ESP BlueHornet, a division of Digital River. URLs in the message body point to email marketing firm VerveMail.

Vision to America: Sending a Political Newsletter to a Spamtrap

Vision to America, apparently a division of something calling itself “Christian Worldview Communications, LLC” (no web site found), just started sending bulk email to an email address that was closed in 2004. The email nonetheless indicates that the email address was added to the system on April 16, 2012. The email was sent by ESP BlueHornet, a division of Digital River. URLs in the message body point to another ESP, ResponseBeacon.
