John Waltz, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s Sixth Congressional district, is sending bulk email to email addresses that were closed before 2008. Either Mr. Waltz previously ran for office before 2008 and gathered a list of supporters at that time that he has not contacted since then, or his campaign has purchased or otherwise obtained a list of email addresses that did not request bulk email from him. The ESP is Salsalabs, the ESP side of liberal U.S. political activist group Wired for Change.

Those who respond to this bulk email solicitation are directed to a URL at MyDCCC.org, a web site managed by SalsaLabs for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), to process their donations. The DCCC has been mentioned twice previously in the MainSleaze blog as spamming through a different ESP, Blue State Digital. The DCCC and Blue State Digital took action to clean up the DCCC’s list, action which so far appears to have worked. (The several-times-weekly spams that my spamtraps were receiving prior to the last week of November have stopped completely.) It is a bit disheartening to see the DCCC involved in spam again through SalsaLabs.
