A party that is determined to remain anonymous is spamming for Nordic Business Forum 2012. The event itself is legitimate as far as I can tell, and the message hints at an advertising agency that one would usually consider legitimate. The methods leave a lot to be desired, unfortunately.

The message was sent from Amazon’s services, mentioning a domain (dmtmailer.com) that is registered through Go Daddy’s cloaking service Domains by Proxy. The message contents do not identify the sender, which is a violation of Section 28 of the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Electronic Communications; they claim the address source was “public registers on the Internet”, which is a violation of Section 25 of the Personal Data Act; and they sent it to an address that only existed briefly between Jan 4, 2010, and Jan 27, 2010, which means they’re processing outdated and erroneous personal data in violation of Section 9 of the Personal Data Act.

The only identifiable party in the message is panicmarketing.net, which belongs to Panic Marketing Oy, an advertising agency in Turku. Following the links advertised in the spam (even without the tags that identify the recipient of the spam) leads one to a page where Checkout.fi payment services may be used to make a payment to Panic Marketing Oy, confirming the fact that they are the beneficiary of this spam.
