MainSleaze

Suunnittelutoimisto Jotain…, aka yrityspostia.fi, whom I have mentioned in passing here already, is spamming. (In other news, water is wet.) I’m really hard pressed to call this mainsleaze, but granted: it is sent by an entity that is readily identifiable from the message, it’s not botspam, and it’s not snowshoe spam, and it advertises services provided by the same entity that sent the message. So what else remains to call it but mainsleaze?

The spammer, Mr Janne Laitinen (Suunnittelutoimisto Jotain… being a sole proprietorship of said person; it’s not a company, it’s a private person carrying on trade in the BIS parlance) has managed to hit Infinite Mho Oy several times in November to December 2011. Now he appears to have managed to listwash that address, but he is still hitting outdated and erroneous addresses elsewhere that shouldn’t even be on his lists, or on any lists for that matter. He is also including non-business-related natural persons at Finnish universities on his “B2B” list now, which is a new low.

“Yrityspostia” or “Suomen Yrityspostia” is not a known d/b/a of anything in the Finnish Business Information System, and so his address register description (“Yrityspostia B2B”) fails to meet the requirements of Section 25 of the Personal Data Act; he is failing to meet the requirements of Section 9, Paragraph 2 of the Personal Data Act by continuing to process outdated and erroneous personal data; and I would be surprised if he wasn’t violating Section 26 of the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Electronic Communications by sending commercial email to natural persons who haven’t expressed prior consent. The Data Protection Ombudsman will have to decide on that.

The pitch of the spam is reselling their own (supposed) B2B register of addresses – for more spamming, of course. The spam-advertised site continues to be hosted by Planeetta Internet, who have been informed in December already.
