toiminnanohjaustieto.com: Blog spam at Mainsleaze

Somebody, or it might be something, just visited the Mainsleaze blog from 217.149.52.111 (web111.webhotelli.fi), trying to leave a comment on the Microsoft spam posting I made yesterday. Too bad the comment itself had nothing to offer on the Microsoft issue; it was merely comment spam in a blog, advertising some content on the blog of toiminnanohjaustieto.com (e-Devel.fi Ky) that is somehow related to Microsoft products.  I gave the owner of the biz a call and let him know; he says everything to do with their site happens through an advertising agency they use, which he did not name.  Their WordPress content looks like it’s all auto-linked from elsewhere. Gee…

The Attack of the 800 Pound Finnish Gorilla: Microsoft (Finland) ignores opt-out

Microsoft’s Finland office keeps spamming outdated and erroneous addresses at the atro.fi domain. The ESP is ExactTarget. I’ve told Microsoft in September 2010 (to the explicitly named feedback address in that message), and tried again in February 2011 (to postmaster and abuse at one of their domains registered for a specific event; neither existed). Duh. Perhaps the ESP can lend a helping hand.

Rope Oy: B2B spamming Finnish businesses, no address register indication, no opt-out possibility

Rope Oy, a Finnish marketing company d/b/a Rope-Yhtiöt, is resorting to spamming to advertise its own services. The ESP is MMD Networks Oy, whose instructions and suggestions for their customers clearly indicate they figure opt-out is OK. Or what do you think? “Jos vastaanottajat ovat tilanneet postin, lähetystiheys voi olla vaikka päivittäinen” – my translation: “If the recipients have subscribed to your mailing, it’s OK to send even daily”, implying that bulk email can be sent to recipients who haven’t subscribed. MMD, wonder if you know what unsolicited bulk email is known as around here?

Market Energia Sähkönmyynti Oy: Selling electricity deals to a spamtrap

Market Energia Sähkönmyynti Oy is trying to sell a better deal on electricity to somebody at the atro.fi domain that used to belong to Savon Voima Oyj, an electricity company in eastern Finland.

Suunnittelutoimisto Jotain…: Illegally spamming for spamming services

Suunnittelutoimisto Jotain…, aka yrityspostia.fi, whom I have mentioned in passing here already, is spamming. (In other news, water is wet.) I’m really hard pressed to call this mainsleaze, but granted: it is sent by an entity that is readily identifiable from the message, it’s not botspam, and it’s not snowshoe spam, and it advertises services provided by the same entity that sent the message. So what else remains to call it but mainsleaze?

(RESOLVED) Schneider Electric Finland Oy: No means yes

Schneider Electric Finland Oy is one of the many parties whose customer registers contained, presumably quite legitimately, the addresses of many employees of Savon Voima Oyj, the previous owners of the atro.fi domain. I requested them to clean their registers of email addresses at this domain on December 9, 2011, and received a response from them the same day in which they indicated that they would be cleaning their lists. I am sad to report that it didn’t happen. Several addresses that used to belong to Savon Voima employees received an ad from them today. The ESP is Damex Multimedia Oy. Update Jan 16: They tell me in private email they’ve just done a s/atro.fi/newdomain.example/g in their address register. I can’t tell if the new addresses are all valid, but at least it won’t be my problem any more…

Keltainen Pörssi and isteer.net keep pushing it

This is in relation to my previous posts on the topic. They Just Don’t Get It, and that means none of the parties involved.

(RESOLVED) MACEF 2012: inviting Customer Service to come visit a fair

I wonder if this qualifies as mainsleaze. But it isn’t botspam, at least. Looking at the rDNS for 46.29.200.0/21, one might be tempted to call it snowshoe spam. Over fifteen hundred separate MXes, and just about nothing but MXes?

MACEF, Fiera Milano S.p.A., an Italian “international home show”, is spamming the Customer Service address at the atro.fi domain, which clearly does not have any customer service. The messages are sent through yaweb.it, Diennea Informatica di Maurizio Fionda.

Your-marketing-solution.com / directmarketingco.com: Spamming about spam to outdated and partially nonexistent addresses

This is so spammy it can hardly qualify as mainsleaze. But it keeps being sent from the same IP address and it openly mentions the domain names of the sender and/or beneficiary (your-marketing-solution.com, directmarketingco.com) in both the headers and the message body, so at least it isn’t botspam.

Nordic Business Forum 2012: bordering on garden variety spam

A party that is determined to remain anonymous is spamming for Nordic Business Forum 2012. The event itself is legitimate as far as I can tell, and the message hints at an advertising agency that one would usually consider legitimate. The methods leave a lot to be desired, unfortunately.
