Lateralus Enterprise / Tavoite Media diving into “B2C”… with a harvest of the Finnish Business Information System
Ouch. Ouch!!!! How many ways can you fail?
Got spam to the biz today. The sender name was a natural person I didn’t recognise, and the subject line was “Are you going to be receiving tax returns in December?”
We have a special version of payday loans here in Finland – small loans in the autumn in exchange for a big cut of the tax returns you will be receiving come December. And one of the companies offering that kind of service bought a spam run from Lateralus Enterprise / Tavoite Media. I mentioned it to everybody involved, telling my very special friend that I thought it was rather careless of him to keep sending to someone who’s made a big point of opting out of his transmissions, particularly since it’s less than a month since he stressed it that he has removed all of my domains’ addresses from his registers ages ago.
(Why am I letting myself believe it’s not a prank but a harvest of the Finnish Business Information System data? Multiple data points, of course.)
Then I received a response from the beneficiary of the missive, saying this:
pahoittelemme, että olette saaneet ei-toivottua sähköpostia. Olemme ostaneet postituspalvelun Tavoite Medialta ja myyjä on meille vakuuttanut, että postituslista koostuu suoramainontaan luvan antaneista yksityisasiakkaista.
Translation: We’re sorry that you have received unsolicited email. We have bought the mailing service from Tavoite Media and the vendor has assured us that the mailing list consists of consumers who have given permission to be sent direct marketing.
