Hunter Mountain: Purchasing a List?
New York ski resort Hunter Mountain is sending bulk email to a long-closed email address. The email address was last “live” in 2007. The ESP is BlueHornet, a division of Digital River.
The original owner of this email address was resident of the New York City area, so it would normally be credible that the email address might have been on a ski season notifications list for a New York ski resort. However, the spam below indicates that the email address was added to the system in May of 2011, when the email address had not been in use for slightly over four years. So this spamtrap hit was probably due not to failure to maintain a legitimate opt-in list, but to a purchased list. Sending email to purchased lists is spamming, period and end of sentence.
