The wine connoisseurs’ society of Alko, the Finnish govt-owned alcohol monopoly, wants to ask a spamtrap member to participate in a survey. The ESP is Feedback Dialog.

The funny part here is that the address is misspelled in a way (think “Caherine Jeferson”…) that means there is no way it could have received any mail during the tenancy of the original owners of the atro.fi domain. The senders are clearly making zero attempt to process bounces – as  this address has bounced from the moment it was entered in a list. It also means there’s no way the address could have completed a Confirmed Opt-In cycle. On the other hand, membership in the society isn’t free, which makes this all the weirder… And, of course, I appear to have notified someone else who handled bulk email for Alko at the time about the mispeled adres back in February 2010 already. Maybe they didn’t tell the list owners.

But that’s not a good enough excuse! I told etikettiklubiuutiset@alko.fi (which is the From: address, as well as the indicated opt-out address, of these messages) to remove all atro.fi addresses on September 22, 2010… and promptly received a reminder for the same kind of survey on September 27, 2010. They’re clearly not interested in maintaining their register of personal data in a way compatible with Section 9, Paragraph 2 of the Personal Data Act, nor observing the opt-out of subscribers as required by Section 26 of the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Electronic Communications. The message doesn’t indicate the physical address or Business ID of Alko Oy, so it falls short of those requirements as well.
