IWA Publishing: Selling Specialist/Technical Books to a Role Address?
IWA Publishing, the publications wing of the International Water Association, is sending bulk email to an old role address that was closed in 2007. The ESP is MailChimp.
A role address is an email address that is assigned to a particular role within the domain, rather than to a specific person. Such email addresses rarely send email, and do not normally sign up to receive bulk email of any kind. Since this role address finished its timeout period and was re-enabled in late 2009 as a spamtrap, it has not received email from the IWA. This suggests to me that the IWA’s publishing house is either emailing a fallow list or has purchased a presumably “targeted” list of email addresses.
